Chi-town furniture shopping review
May, 8, 2009
Posted byLast weekend, I flew to Chicago to meet a friend/client and help purchase furniture for her new home. She is moving into a 6 bedroom home from a condo, so needless to say there is plenty to do! Overall we had a great time, and since I don’t live there, I wanted to share my experiences!
Best Customer Service – This was a tie – great service at two stores lead to great orders at both!

Arhaus Good greeting at the door and cordial sales rep meant a great time was had by all! Leslie kept up with us a and tended our varied needs, including moving a dining chair from one floor to next and suggesting fabrics for chair. She was attentive and engaged without being pushy and treated us well. Best of all, they had the-hard-to-find round dining tables and found the perfect fit! Love their store displays too!
Mig and Tig Again, a smart sales person,
who knew when to check in on us and when to hang back. We found a fabulous crescent sofa and were able to modify it to meet my clients preferences, too. Kirk expertly suggested a cool glass table to complement our sofa choice, and was eager to provide options for other furniture for my clients home.
Most Amazing space Domicile Warehouse in Evanston…this place was simply amazing, just due to its size. It is HUGE! I felt like every moderately priced furniture catalog pushed their furniture off of the pages and dumped them in this store. Huge selection, lots of furniture, art, rugs and accents. And the back clearance center/warehouse was just as amazing if not more. A leather club chair for under $250? You just can’t beat it. Seriously…if you need to furnish a home in a hurry and on budget, this is The SPOT.
Worst Customer Service Horton’s Home Lighting
We were searching for wall scones with telescoping arm, which were incredibly hard to find…almost as hard as finding someone to help us find them! Needless to say we walked out of there with just pictures to show for our trip. Our plan was to visit Lightology but it was closed on Sunday.
Biggest Surprise – no more ZGallerie on North Ave. We were extremely disappointed by this!! When we shared with friends over dinner, they seemed to be just as dumbfounded as we were. Probably most because they missed the closing sale!
We also visited Jayson Home and Garden, Bloomingdales Home and Room and Board. We will probably return to Jayson for outdoor items and accessories, and BloomHome for bedding. R&B just didn’t have the style we are seeking.
In June, I will probably visit again – this time for accessories, small furniture, and art. Please send me store recommendations (outside of Merchandise Mart) to visit on second trip!

i wish you could come out to our place in bensenville, loaded with modern furniture in a warehouse. i’m kind of curious what kind of review we would get.
Delicious Blog…
As the friend/client, I have to thank Roslyn. The weekend was a blast and very successful tahnks to great pre-planning and an eye for what I needed. Like the salesfolk in Arhaus and Mig&Tig….no pushing, just great advice. Not only did we get a bunch of the furniture picked out, but also finished 90% of the color selections for the walls. Talk about a productive weekend!
